Beronia.... Fuchsia pink and heavily scented flower,..

We love Boronia ! To start with it has the most brilliant fuchsia color. There's this incredibly intense fragrance, kind of sweet and fruity...it perfumes the studio (the scent is not for the weak of heart). The oils are used in foods to enhance fruity flavors. Then there's the texture - like a heather on Miracle grow. It looks amazing with all the other Spring flowers and has this sweeping effect in arrangements
Sadly , it has the briefest of season of  and availability is limited.  The sweet anticipation of a bloom  kind of makes it even more special to create designs with
a bloom in season!

Flowers that reflect a perfect day at the sea

We found these lovely fluted vases that had an ombre effect
in ocean hues. Silver colored succulents and white cymbidium
orchid blossoms were paved with sea urchin shells and Brunia
berries & foliage. It had this wonderful, soothing effect on the
senses. We loved the way these turned out and put them on
each bedside table.

Koi fish made out of a Ginger flower

When you remove some of the petals from a fresh Ginger flower it creates the look of fish scales. We used small black bead pins for the eyes and left some of the petals of the flower for the tail. placed on a bed of polished black river rock and variegated ti leaves. Whimsical and detail orientated. A great conversation piece as people watch the sushi chef prepare delectable bites. Plums Cafe & Catering did an amazing job with the food. All of us at Chris Lindsay Designs enjoyed creating these whimsical fish.

Holiday Decor favorites for 2013

We can't believe its March already. Our goal to post our blog on a regular basis was lost in the shuffle. So apologies for the  tardy post.
Chris Lindsay Designs got to create some great contemporary, traditional and unusual holiday decor in 2013. Thanks to wonderful clients that give us the freedom to do what we do best. Here are just a few of our favorites as we start on the holiday season of 2014. Wow, did I just say that.

If we can't find it, we will make it....

Chars, first wood carving sculpture. We found the worlds smallest chain saw it goes on a proxxon hand tool and is only two inches wide. She loves our client and it turned out wonderfully.
Char also created the Seahorse above out of poly clay using chicken wire as the armature. It looks amazing up close. It was accented with micro beads to catch the light and stone beads for the eyes.We know who to call in if there is something out of the box needed.

Memorable Designs......

So, I was looking over pictures of Brides bouquets this last week. We
are working  on marketing for the coming year. Out of a really large pile of pictures there were a few that stood out. We decided that we really needed to share.

The first one was accented with steel grass and drop crystals with a satin wrap. The tone and texture was lovely, the wire collar and a crystal band at the base gave it a more contemporary twist.

Next, a pop of vibrant color. As you      can see mini Callas are all the rage right now. This one called for a variety called Mango and the deeper orange that is Flame. One of the Event Designers is always excited when
she gets to do weddings with vibrant colors.

The Last had a amazing amount of crystals woven through the design, a initial for their last name as well as a solid six inch diamond band of crystals wrapping the stems. The girls wore platinum so we made eggplant bullion wire leaves to accent the silver and lavender colored flowers that the bridesmaids carried. Making sure that the color palette was carried through out.

Enjoy...
